FINDING REST TO RESTORE PEACE

Most of the peace and rest we all search for in our lives will come to us in where we are and what we are doing, rather than escaping where we are or what we are doing. The goal for the days of our life is to find peace and joy in the present moment and the present duty or job we are performing. Even if it is the hour of our day to lie down and sleep, we will only find the peace and joy of sleep if that is the next right thing to do in our life. We all must learn the discipline of “the next right thing,” in order to escape the tension created when we choose to do only according to our own needs and desires.
The walk of faith required to follow Jesus Christ for our life journey, leads us to engage our spirit in obedience in the Now of our life, not in the next hour, next day or next month of our life. It is easy to convince our self to do what “feels” right or good instead of what our mind and spirit tell us is the right thing to do. The outcome of operating according to our feelings will always lead to the “more” that is necessary to keep the good feeling going. However, if we can learn to check our feelings at the door and rely on our mind and spirit to determine the next thing or next step, we will find the satisfaction and peace that comes when the Holy Spirit whispers, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
